The Kentucky Real Estate Commission (KREC) enforces the continuing education requirements for every Kentucky real estate licensee. Licensed agents are required to fulfill their education requirements by December 31st, 2009 or face a fine of $500 in addition to making up the courses. Online Classes Now Approved by KREC In the past, taking CE classes meant having to potentially drive long distances and maybe even sit in a boring classroom and listen to the same material over and over again. That changed in 2007 when Thornton's Real Estate Academy became the first provider in Kentucky to receive approval from the KREC for online continuing education courses that would fulfill an agents entire 6 hour requirement. (including a three hour law course) Currently we have two approved 3 hour courses. Technology you can Use is approved for 3 hour general credit while Stupid is as Stupid Does is approved for 3 hours of law credit.
The only "in class" course required is now every 4 years. (Kentucky Core Law Course Refresher) The year the Kentucky Core Law Course would first be required is initially based on a licensee's birth month. For 2009, if an agent has not taken the course in the previous 4 years and if they were born in either July, August, or September they would need to attend an "in the classroom" Kentucky Core Law Class. The KREC sends out notices and agents can check which courses they need by checking their status on the KREC website. Everyone else could either attend approved classes in the classroom or attend our approved online courses. Per Kentucky Real Estate Commission regulations, the Kentucky Core Law Class may not be taken online, but we are still working with the real estate commission to help change this rule. Please check back and we'll keep you updated. Kentucky Core Law "In Class" Classes Schedule We're sorry, but we don't have any Core Law Courses scheduled. We are hopeful that we may be able to provide the Core class online sometime during the last half of 2009. If you just need regular CE including a 3 hour law course, please check out our online courses by clicking the register link.
Question: Can I retake the same online classes that I took last year? Answer: Yes. As long as you don't need the Kentucky Core Law Class (required once every 4 years) you can take the same classes each year for credit.Note: A high speed Internet connection (DSL/Cable, etc.) will be required to register for any of our online courses. Even a slower DSL connection (256k or lower) may cause you to experience wait times as videos and other multimedia resources load. If you have any questions about whether your computer setup meets our technical requirements, please contact us via email before registering for any courses.
